Bad Peterstal is a beautiful little village in the Black Forest. The Gästehaus Bächle was a great B&B, with the best breakfast and apple cake (thanks to Oma) I've ever tasted. Even my Grandma (the best German cook in America) never made a breakfast cake such as this one. Herr und Frau Huber were very special. He spoke English, as well as his daughter, but his mother and wife did not. They all run a clean, neat and friendly Gästehaus. What a wonderful family to visit!!
David and I wished we could have stayed more than one night in this beautiful little town in 1998 so in 2001 my daughter Whitney and I stayed there 3 nights. What a surprise to see Frau Huber had my new hairdo when I pulled up --- she had my other hairdo in '98! And she does speak English, better than she lets on. Great central location for exploring other areas such as traveling into Strasbourg and touring Baden-Baden.
Too bad I didn't get a picture of the breakfast
room or the buffet. The buffet was prepared and serviced by Oma. She doesn't speak English, but such a warm, gentle
woman who truly cares that her guests are comfortable. Every morning she would stop what she was doing and ask
us "Schlaft gut?" I tried apologizing to her with my horrible German speaking capabilities on our last
morning since we were very late for breakfast. She stood fast, looked at me and said "Machts nichts - Urlaub!"
Simple words to remember when you're always on a schedule and try to stay on a schedule while on vacation. It doesn't
matter, does it? Vacation means to take it easy!
The buffet had 3 different kinds of yogurt, 2 kinds of Quark, cereals, fresh fruit, canned fruit, at least 4 different types of homemade jams or preserves, meats, cheeses, fresh breads and Kaiser rolls and soft boiled eggs done to perfection each and every morning!
